Dear Friend. My name is George. I grew up on a farm, milked cows, fed chickens and Hogs, cleaned barns, and did whatever is required to be done on a farm. Yes, when I was quite young I even plowed the fields with four horses and a two bottom plow. I walked behind the harrows drawn with horses and controlled the horses with a bunch of leather straps. I remember well the day we graduated to tractor power and were eventually freed from the challenges related to real raw horse power.
Probably due to the difficulties and hard labour related to farm work, I chose to leave the farm at a relatively early age, took some training in auto mechanics, which came relatively easy for me because of my farm background, I ended up as a shop foreman in a GM Garage. After 4 plus years in this position I felt ready to embark on a venture in business for myself. This ended up in a nine year stint, with a partner, owning and running an Auto Service station/Restaurant business. After this successful experience and still having interest in expanding my horizons, I sold my 50% share of the service station and I joined up with eight other investors and became actively involved in a Motor Home manufacturing endeavor.
My first responsibility was that of the Production manager. The small company we took over had already built 26 Motor homes in a 3 year period. In the first year I ran the production we built 100 Motor homes. The second year we built 200 and were on target to build 300 the third year when we lost everything through a major fire. After some serious soul searching and great encouragement from our loyal production staff, we purchased an existing manufacturing operation next door and 30 days later continued our production of motor homes.
Short time later, just when things were going rather well, the first wave of North American Energy crises hit. Our factory inventory was at an all-time high, so was the inventory of our dealers across western Canada and we were forced to lay off production personnel and look for avenues of survival. Our sales team up and left, increasing the already worrisome situation and things looked rather bleak. A few of us in management got together, constructed a plan which ended up me taking the position of sales & Marketing Manager.
Approximately 60 days later, with the help of some creative incentives and marketing strategies, some of which I had used in my service station years, we were up and running. I remained in that position until my retirement some 22 years later, having opened Canadain markets from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. I also opened up outlets in the USA as well as numerous European countries, such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Holland and the UK. Yes even dealerships in Japan.
Because of my marketing success in the RV business, I have learned to love marketing. My entry into the network marketing arena, and especially in our new ”for me” highly technical arena, is a whole new concept and some of the techniques, even though similar, are strangely different but interesting.
I look forward to getting my head around some of these new techniques and believe network marketing is a great way to promote and sell products.
